A Major X-Man May Have Just Been Killed By [SPOILER]

Marvel’s Knights of X #3 by writer Tini Howard and artist Bob Quinn sees a major X-Men character seemingly die at the hands of a powerful enemy.

The following contains spoilers from Knights of X #3, on sale now from Marvel.

Gambit may have just been killed when fighting Merlyn in the Otherworld in Marvel’s Knights of X #3.

Knights of X #3 comes from writer Tini Howard, artist Bob Quinn, color artist Erick Arciniega, letterer VC’s Ariana Maher and designer Tom Muller. In the issue, the Knights of X are fighting the witchbreed-hunting Furies in the Crooked Market when Meryln shows up on a winged lion. Gambit, who is in the middle of rescuing Mad Jim Jaspers for the Furies, looks up and sees the incoming threat, at which point he launches into a full-on attack.

Using magic and “de perfect card,” Gambit flies into the air to try and put an end to Meryln’s tyranny once and for all. “What a surprise — a witchbreed wielding stolen magic with stick hands,” Meryln says in response to the oncoming fight. “You know nothing of what you hold, Remy LeBeau. Now die.”

Charging at one another, an explosion erupts in the sky that sends Gambit falling back to the ground. He’s last seen laying in a pool of blood with a “death” card laying just beyond his fingertips, while the other Knights of X look at their fallen ally in shock and horror. Meryln’s state and whereabouts following the fight remain unknown at the end of the issue.

Knights of X launched in April from Marvel. The series sees Betsy Braddock lead the Captain Britain Corps, King Arthur’s son Mordred and an assortment of other heroes on a quest to recover the Siege Perilous in an effort to save the Otherworld from Meryln, King Arthur and the Furies, all of whom are hellbent on killing witchbreed. Solicitation information for Knights of X #4, which releases July 20, reveals the team is headed to a new location in the Otherworld — seemingly, without Gambit. The synopsis reads, “BRAVE THROUGH THE DARKNESS! With Arthur and his army on their heels, all but one of the Knights of X have made it to Mercator — the province void of light. But all isn’t what it seems. Will Betsy and her team be able to overcome the darkness and find the Siege Perilous?”

Knights of X #3 features cover art by Yanick Paquette and Alejandro Sánchez and variant cover art by Mahmud Asrar, Matthew Wilson and Miguel Mercado. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
