A Whisker Away director Tomotaka Shibayama to direct a new 2024 Netflix anime movie

A Whisker Away director Tomotaka Shibayama is set to direct a new anime feature film for Netflix planned for 2024. In addition, Studio Colorido announced that it will work with Netflix to co-produce three new anime feature films.

This includes Drifting Home, which will be available globally on September 16, 2022.

This is the first time Netflix has collaborated on a feature-length animation production with a Japanese domestic animation company over a multi-year period.

Netflix has been attempting to increase the amount of anime available on its site.

In Japan, around 90% of people watch anime, and half of Netflix customers watched it last year. Other streaming sites, like Amazon and Disney, are starting to add more anime to their lineups.

The number of Netflix customers in the Asia-Pacific area has decreased in recent months, with the region losing subscribers for the first time in over a decade.

Netflix and Studio Colorido are teaming up to produce three feature films!
First one is Drifting Home premiering on September 16!

¡Netflix y Studio Colorido producirán 3 películas, y la primera, Hogar a la deriva, se estrenará en Netflix el 16 de septiembre!

Koji Yamamoto, President of Studio Colorido explains,

“Our goal is to make a film that is uniquely Colorido. We have been working hard and moving forward in our own way toward that goal. Until now, Japanese films have often been unable to go global, but now it is possible to send them out into the world in the form of Netflix films. Netflix connects Japanese films with users around the world.”

The new piece is part of Netflix’s recently created “Anime Creators’ Base,” which is designed to assist creators in developing conceptual imagery.

A Whisker away, directed by Tomotaka Shibayama, is the studio’s third feature film.

This new anime feature film is planned for release in 2024. The third film’s plot has remained a mystery so far.

Shibayama comments,

“The new work I am currently planning is a story about a little mysterious love story that takes place during one winter. I want to deliver a work that will be a cheering song for boys and girls, carefully depicting the extraordinary things that come suddenly in their daily lives and the emotional growth of the characters. We hope you will enjoy it.”

In this film by Junichi Satoh and Tomotaka Shibayama, Miyo (Mirai Shida) transforms into a cat whenever she wants to be near Hinode (Natsuki Hanae). However, he is a boy who does not share her degree of adoration.

By donning a cat mask that transforms her into a white kitten with glacier-blue eyes, she can still get near Hinode and watch him create pottery with his grandfather.

Also, Hinode names the cat after his beloved former pet Taro, believing it is a nice stray. One of many gestures that make Miyo secretly swoon.

When a clean dream with calm scenery and lovely animals gets a bit wild. It is indeed more enjoyable, and luckily A Whisker Away contains some out-of-the-box concepts to keep the story fantastic as it progresses.

As if the film were creating its furry cosplay mythology, there are laws, secret passageways, and more. A Whisker Away has plenty of lessons—or, depending on the audience, reminders—to impart in all of its equal whimsy and romance.
