A Young Justice Villain Just Leveled Up in DC’s Dark Crisis

A Young Justice villain has mysteriously become more powerful in DC’s Dark Crisis: Young Justice #1 by Meghan Fitzmartin and Laura Braga.

The following contains spoilers for Dark Crisis: Young Justice #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

The Mighty Endowed just mysteriously leveled up and has somehow become more powerful in DC’s Dark Crisis: Young Justice #1.

Dark Crisis: Young Justice #1 comes from writer Meghan Fitzmartin, artist Laura Braga, colorist Luis Guerrero and letterer Pat Brosseau. In the issue, which ties into DC’s ongoing Dark Crisis event, Superboy, Impulse, Robin, Arrowette and Wonder Girl are all meeting inside the Hall of Justice following a memorial for the Justice League, who are presumed dead after they fought Pariah and the Dark Army in Justice League #75. Out of nowhere, Superboy, Impulse and Robin suddenly find themselves transported back in time; although, it’s not immediately clear whether they remain in their reality or have traveled to a different reality when doing so.

After finding one another once again, the three heroes encounter a villain from their past: the Mighty Endowed. Created by Peter David and Todd Nauck, the Mighty Endowed/Nina Dowd first appeared in 1998’s Young Justice #1. Posing as a minor threat at the time of her appearance, Young Justice is able to defeat her with relative ease during their initial encounter and the character has largely been absent from comics ever since.

This time, however, something appears to be different about the Mighty Endowed. Impulse, Robin and Superboy all discover she poses as a much more serious threat this time around, as she’s able to defend herself from the Young Justice member’s oncoming attacks. “Feels like I went ten rounds with Damian,” Robin says after being knocked back by the villain. Impulse agrees, “This…this is nuts, right? Superboy’s right…I don’t remember her being this…intense.” How or why the Mighty Endowed was able to suddenly become more powerful has not yet been revealed, but the issue does end with Superboy looking off into the distance and seeing “someone” come to aid the team.

Meanwhile, back in the present timeline, Wonder Girl has taken it upon herself to discover what happened to her friends. While most other heroes are too busy facing threats that would have otherwise been handled by the Justice League and turn down Wonder Girl’s request for help, Cassie feels partially responsible for their absence and vows to rescue them. The last page of the comic shows Cassie has seemingly arrived wherever Impulse, Superboy and Robin have been transported to, as she’s standing over a now-fallen the Mighty Endowed.

Dark Crisis: Young Justice #1 features cover art by Guerrero and variant cover art by Todd Nauck and Matt Herms. The issue is on sale now from DC.
