TLDR: The Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 release date hasn’t yet been announced, and neither has its production. On the positive side, the anime appears to have been popular on Crunchyroll, however it didn’t give a big boost to manga sales which may hurt its chances of a renewal. It’s not known if Season 2 of Aharen-san wa Hakarenai has been greenlit, but if it does happen fans will likely have to wait several years for it.
The Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 TV series will continue the romantic story of Matsuboshi Raido and Reina Aharen. But when will Aharen is Indecipherable Season 2 come out?
The studio and main staff making Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 has not been announced yet.
For the first season, the Aharen-san wa Hakarenai anime project was produced by Japanese animation Studio Felix Film. A relatively new company, they initially focused on 3D CGI animation and they are best known for the Nekopara series. They also collaborated with Studio LIDEN FILMS to create the Urasekai Picnic anime.
In 2023, Studio Felix Film is also releasing the Initial D sequel MF Ghost. That’s their first big name brand project to date.
The first season of the Aharen-san wa Hakarenai anime was helmed by chief director Yasutaka Yamamoto (Noblesse, Nekopara) and main director Tomoe Makino (Kotaro Lives Alone). Writer Takao Yoshioka (I’m Standing on a Million Lives, Horimiya) wrote the scripts.
Artist Yuuko Yahiro (Kaguya-sama: Love is War anime series) was the character designer. Composer Satoru Kousaki (Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, BEASTARS) and MONACA (Yuki Yuna is a Hero, Assassins Pride) created the music.
The Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music hasn’t been announced yet.
For the first season, the Aharen-san wa Hakarenai OP “Inseparable Distance (Hanarenai Kyori)” was performed by TrySail, while the ED “A Sense of Distance (Kyori-kan)” was performed by HaKoniwalily. A second ED, “Aharen heart”, was performed by Inori Minase, the Japanese voice actress who played Reina Aharen.
The first season of Aharen-san wa Hakarenai was streaming in Spring 2022 with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, VRV, and Netflix Japan (not Netflix USA, Hulu, Funimation, or Amazon Prime Video).
The first season’s finale, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Episode 12, will release on June 17, 2022.
This article provides everything that is known about Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 (Aharen is Indecipherable Season 2 / Aharen-san Season 2) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain
As of the last update, Studio Felix Film, Shueisha, bilibili, or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 release date. Nor has the production of an Aharen-san wa Hakarenai sequel been announced.
Once the news is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when, or if, the Aharen is Indecipherable Season 2 release date will occur in the future.
The Aharen-san wa Hakarenai reviews have been good but not great like other rom-com anime competitors like Kaguya-sama: Love is War. It’s not quite slice-of-life since it’s in the iyashikei anime genre, but it’s definitely a tale that appeals to those who enjoy slower wholesome and relaxing anime like Super Cub or Yuru Camp.

Like the title self-declared, Aharen is Indecipherable is a story about two introverted awkward turtles who find friendship in each other only to slowly discover love. The focus is almost entirely on their relationship, which is both good and bad at the same time.
The problem is that character development for side characters is often limited. Most of the school friends are fairly static and appear for comedic value alone. On the other hand, this focus is good since nothing distracts from the story being simple and super sweet, which is a hallmark of the iyashikei genre.
In regards to the chances of a sequel happening, the good news is that Crunchyroll’s popular anime list often showed Aharen near the top. The bad news is that the anime didn’t give a huge boost to the manga sales in April 2022 since the series didn’t make the Top 20 Oricon list.
As a comparison, the manga boost for other Spring 2022 anime in the rom-com genre was notably better. In the Top 20, Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie manga ranked #20 (and #12 in May 2022) and the Komi Can’t Communicate manga ranked #12.
But a manga boost into the Oricon Top 20 isn’t 100 percent necessary for the anime production committee to keep greenlighting sequels. For example, Kaguya-Sama Season 3 didn’t boost its respective manga to the Oricon Top 20 in April or May 2022, either.
Therefore, it’s uncertain whether the anime production committee will have Aharen-san wa Hakarenai renewed for a second season. Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is also an odd duck since it’s an iyashikei anime, so we’ll just have to wait and see since many similar rom-com anime are receiving sequels.
In any case, it’s unlikely that the producers will internally greenlight a sequel quickly. The industry schedules projects years out in advance. As such, anime fans should expect a multi-year wait for the Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 release date.
Crunchyroll’s Aharen-san wa Hakarenai English dub release date for the first season was on April 15, 2022, which was only several weeks behind the series’ Crunchyroll premiere on April 1, 2022.
Here was Crunchyroll’s Aharen-san wa Hakarenai dub cast:
Presumably, now that Funimation is being phased out by Sony, Crunchyroll’s Aharen Season 2 English dub release date will be announced in the future after Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 has first premiered with Japanese audio and English subtitles.
Hopefully, future English dubbing will be faster once the COVID pandemic winds down and becomes endemic. In order to protect voice actors from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, they were forced to temporarily pause production or take extra safety precautions that resulted in slowed work.
Many English dubbing houses have experienced delays since voice actors often travel to the recording studio. By mid-2022 Crunchyroll began switching from remote recording to in-studio recording again (most of the work is done in their Texas studio).
The story for the anime TV show is based on the Aharen-san wa Hakarenai manga by creator Asato Mizu. In the past, the manga artist/writer created the finished manga Denkigai no Honya-san, which focused on people working in a doujin book shop.
The Aharen is Indecipherable manga began weekly serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ magazine in January 2017. As of June 3, 2022, the manga series was up to Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Volume 14.
Unfortunately, no North American publisher has announced an official Aharen-san wa Hakarenai manga English translation. However, there are fan-made translation projects that have kept up with recent new chapters.
The Aharen-san anime series is arguably one of the most well-executed adaptations of a iyashikei manga series in recent years. The anime really captured the wholesome and relaxing vibe of the manga.
But, like rom-com manga series, the chapters were adapted out of order and the story was condensed. Rearranging the presentation of manga chapters was necessary in order to make the story flow better in the episodic TV format.
(One notable translation change made by Crunchyroll was that the Raido x Aharen-obsessed teacher referred to her “Esteem” rather than “Poignancy” and “Pathos”.)
Notably, earlier manga chapters tended to have self-contained stories while later manga volumes began to develop short story arcs. In those cases, the anime adapted the related chapters in consecutive order.
The anime scriptwriter also purposefully hid certain details from audiences in order to increase the ambiguity of the romantic progression. What actually happened during that camping scene; did they begin dating for real? Episode 11 especially teased audiences in order to heighten the impact of the big reveal of Giga-Chad Raido in Episode 12 where he was completely open and honest about his feelings for Aharen.
The following is a guide to skipped chapters and the order in which the anime episodes adapted the manga. The anime even adapted many Bonus/omake chapters that are designed by 0.5:
All in all, the first season’s finale, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Episode 12, found a stopping point corresponding to manga Volume 7.
It’s the best stopping point since Chapter 64 needed to be the focus of the ending as it’s a Peak Poignancy moment with a proper confession and happy friends to watch it happen! It also gave the anime the feeling of being a self-contained story since the climax resolves an important character development milestone.
The good news is that there is plenty of source material available for making Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2. In fact, by the end of 2022, there should be enough chapters for even Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 3!
Anime audiences who wish to read ahead can jump straight to manga Volume 8. Fortunately, English-only manga readers can use the fan translation projects since they’re far ahead of the anime.
It’s official. Raido x Aharen are dating. But one warm day when they decide to play hide-and-seek inside the school, Raido decides to play… the role of the devil!? And what is the word he shouts without giving up…?
Aharen-san Season 2 will have the obligatory beach bikini episode. They even go for a one-day trip on an island to celebrate with BBQ.
Of course, the anime’s second season will be as quirky as ever. Aharen is even challenged by her boyfriend Raido to a beetle contest while catching insects in the bushes at a park.
Unfortunately, anime fans will have to wait until the Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 release date to watch what happens next. Stay tuned!
