Mizuki Tsujimura’s novel Anime Supremacy! (Haken Anime!) a story about three women: a producer, a director, and an animator who are trying to survive in the anime industry. The book is receiving a live-action drama film adaptation that will open in Japanese movie theaters on May 20, 2022.
The manga artist group, CLAMP (Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHOLiC) drew a collaborative visual for the film depicting the real-life actors and actresses and the in-story anime characters in CLAMP’s signature edgy, whimsical manga style.
Kohei Yoshino will direct the film with Yosuke Masaike writing the script. The film will be distributed by Toei Company. Genie High will sing the film’s opening theme song titled Éclair.

Eisaku Kubonouchi (Chocolat, Carole & Tuesday) is another manga creator who is designing the characters for the anime that will appear in the film called Soundback: So no Ishi, and he drew the heroine Hitomi Saito (played by Riho Yoshioka) in his own signature realistic style.
Theatergoers in Japan have something to look forward to if they are part of the first 200,000 people to see the film. During the first week, theatergoers will receive a postcard with Kubonouchi’s illustration as a bonus. During the second week, theatergoers will receive a postcard with CLAMP’s illustration.
In August 2014, the novel was published by Magazine House in Japan and featured illustrations by CLAMP. In October 2017, Vertical released the novel in English.

The story centers on Hitomi Saito, who makes her directorial debut in the anime industry and aims for the top. When only three anime titles among fifty might turn a profit the competition to top the charts and gain the title of “Haken” (Supremacy) is fierce. But Hitomi won’t be doing this alone.
Aiding Hitomi in her ultimate ambition is none other than Chiharu Oji, a famous anime producer who worked on many mega-hit films, and who is returning to the director’s chair for the first time in eight years. Also, joining their team is an eccentric female animator. Will these three women have what it takes to make it in the anime industry that is rife with obstacles that need to be overcome, such as murderous schedules and deadlines, demoralizing compromises just to get viewers during those late-night slots, and incorrigible men in the workplace?
