Call of the Night release date, OP music, new trailer, and cast revealed for vampire rom-com anime

On June 8, 2022, it was announced by a new trailer that the Call of the Night release date is on July 7, 2022. The new vampire anime by Studio Liden Films will premiere on Fuji TV’s Noitama programming block!

The Jrock band Creepy Nuts has written and performed the new Call of the Night OP (opening) theme song titled “Fallen Angel”, which is played in the background of the new trailer.

Call of the Night is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kotoyama. Since 2019 Call of the Night was serialized in Shogakukuan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. Viz Media has licensed the manga’s English version in North America. Outside of Asia, the anime has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks.

It is interesting to note that Kotoyama approached the band Creepy Nuts about whether or not he could name his manga after their song Call of the Night, which was one of his favorites. One wonders if Creepy Nuts called dibs on their song Call of the Night being the ending theme song when his manga was turned into an anime in the future since that’s what ended up happening.

The story centers on a young man named Ko Yamori, who is unable to find true satisfaction in his daily life and has trouble sleeping. Due to the fact he’s become an insomniac, he wanders the streets at night and ends up encountering a beautiful girl named Nazuna Nanakusa, who has an air of danger and mystery about her.

Unfortunately, she’s more dangerous than Ko thought and discovers that she’s actually a vampire. As time passes, and Nazuna shows Ko the joys of being a night-walker his views on vampires begin to change to the point that he wants to become one. But in order to become a vampire, he’ll have to fall in love with Nazuna first.

A trailer highlighting a female vampire character named Seri Kikyo, who will be played by voice actress Haruka Tomatsu, was released.

Kotoyama is also known for his second manga series called Dagashi Kashi, which began serialization in Shogakukan’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday on August 28, 2019. The manga’s chapters have been collected into ten tankobon volumes by Shogakukan.
