Dark Crisis Introduces Flash to Three New Barry Allens – Including a Dark Knight Version

DC introduces three new Barry Allens — including Dark Knight and Mad Max versions — in The Flash #783 by Jeremy Adams and Amancay Nahuelpan.

The following contains spoilers from The Flash #783, on sale now from DC.

The Flash Family heads into the DC Omniverse in a search for a missing Barry Allen in The Flash #783, which ties into DC’s Dark Crisis event, where they encounter a handful of different versions of the Scarlet Speedster.

The Flash #783 comes from writer Jeremy Adams, artist Amancay Nahuelpan, colorist Jeromy Cox and letterer Rob Leigh. In the issue, Wally West and Mister Terrific are leading a charge to find a lost Barry Allen, who the world desperately needs now more than ever after the Justice League met a terrible fate at the hands of Pariah and the Dark Army in Justice League #75. “As you know, every speedster is connected to the Speed Force,” Mister Terrific explains of the mission. “When Wally was pushed into various speedster bodies, Barry and I came up with a way to track him using the unique Speed Force resonance signature that each of you have.” Mister Terrific goes on to explain that he’s found the “phone number” to three versions of Barry Allen. “Each one of them has a different area code,” he continues. “We just need to dial and figure out which one is ‘our’ Barry.”

Accompanied by the Flash Family, Wally’s plans to enter into the Speed Force are interrupted when Jai and Irey run into the portal in an effort to prove their heroes. The two of them are transported to what appears to be a futuristic version of either Central or Gotham City, where they’re greeted by a darkly ominous figure. Given the ‘Allen Tower’ in the background and the figure’s similarity to the Dark Knight’s posture and costume, it appears this Barry is this universe’s version of Batman.

Splitting up into teams to now also go and rescue Jai and Irey, Jesse Quick and Max Mercury step into the portal and find themselves in a futuristic wasteland reminiscent of Mad Max: Fury Road. Before long, they find Barry Allen — only, instead of running, he’s driving a car while being chased by some motorcycles, semis and other vehicles.

Wally and Kid Flash lastly find themselves in a perfect 1960s world. While there, the two witness Barry Allen and Wally West/Kid Flash defeat Captain Cold in a fight that involves several puns and off-the-wall mechanisms. Watching this alternate version of himself fighting alongside Barry, Wally admits to Wallace that he has “no clue” what’s going on but intends to find out.

The Flash‘s “The Search for Barry Allen” Dark Crisis tie-in continues on July 19 with The Flash #784. The Flash #783 features cover art by Brandon Peterson and Michael Atiyeh, with a variant cover by Bengal. The issue is on sale now from DC.
