Does Mikasa Die in Attack on Titan and Is She Going To?

The importance of Mikasa Ackerman for Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan is difficult to overstate. Namely, however important you think she is, she is probably even more important than that. Her role in the story is pivotal, her character development was amazing and Mikasa is one of the most important characters in the whole series. In this article, dedicated to her, we are going to tell you whether she dies in Attack on Titan and what her ultimate fate was.

Mikasa Ackerman survives the events of Attack on Titan. As a human, though, she does eventually die of old age, but that happens decades after the events of the main plot. She is the one to kill Eren Yeager and stop the whole chaos, after which she ends up founding a family with her unidentified husband.

The rest of this article is actually going to focus on Mikasa’s story in the final chapters of the Attack on Titan anime, as we reveal what happened to her and how her story ended in the Attack on Titan anime and manga.

Mikasa’s story is unfolded during the War for Paradis arc, and the subsequent epilogue. Mikasa Ackerman is among the group of characters that want to stop Eren’s rampage and save humanity, despite the truths that had come to light during the plot. So, what happens in the very end of Attack on Titan?

When the group lands at Fort Salta, Mikasa suffers from another headache and mourns the fact that the last conversation she had with Eren ended with him claiming that he hated her. The group is relieved that Reiner survived Armin’s transformation, but they are disheartened to see that Eren and the centipede have also survived.

To Mikasa’s despair, Levi decides that the only hope to stop the rumbling is to kill Eren so that The Source cannot reconnect with him. The Source begins to emit smoke in Salta and the soldiers realize that it is trying to turn the Eldians in the fortress into pure Titans. Mikasa leaves Jean and Connie behind and boards Falco with Levi and Pieck to face Eren again.

As they approach Eren, Mikasa again gets a severe headache and is suddenly taken by Eren to a place on the Path. Mikasa lives in isolation with Eren after they decide to run away from the Paradis-Marleyan conflict. Eren notices that Mikasa has been crying, and Mikasa wonders if it is okay for her to be there. Eren reflects that the only option they had was to run away and spend the rest of his four years at peace with each other, since he could not bring himself to let Historia suffer or upset the people outside the walls.

Mikasa apologizes for bringing up the past, and Eren asks her to forget him when he dies. In the real world, Mikasa says she can not forget him. Mikasa ties the scarf around her neck again and tells Levi that Eren is in the mouth of his Titan and asks him to help her reach him. Levi uses a thunder spear to blow a hole in Eren’s titan mouth. Mikasa enters and immediately separates Eren’s head from his spine. Mikasa kisses Eren and says goodbye to him.

With Eren’s head in hand, Mikasa finds Armin on the battlefield and the two mourn the death of their friend. Mikasa tells Armin that she plans to go alone to give Eren a proper burial. The two agree that the best place to bury him is at the base of the tree under which he liked to nap. When Mikasa leaves, she sees the apparition of Ymir. She understands that Ymir’s love for Fritz was a torment that she cannot undo. Instead, she thanks Ymir for bringing life into the world through which she could be born. Mikasa wishes Ymir a good rest as she continues her journey back to Paradis.

Mikasa returns to Paradis Island and, true to her word, makes a small grave for Eren at the tree under which he liked to sleep outside the Shiganshina district. Three years after his death, Mikasa visits Eren’s grave and tells him that her friends will visit him soon. Wishing to see him again, Mikasa begins to cry. Her tears are interrupted by a bird that grabs the end of her scarf and holds it before it flies away. As she watches the bird fly away, Mikasa thanks Eren for wrapping the scarf around her once again.

Years later, Mikasa and her new family continue to visit Eren’s grave regularly for decades before she finally dies of old age and is buried with Eren’s scarf.

Well, seeing how Mikasa Ackerman is a regular human, she will eventually die of old age, which is confirmed in the series. Mikasa lives to be quite old and eventually dies, but these events take place decades after the events of the main Attack on Titan plot.
