Now that you have your Fate anime watch order at a glance, in the rest of the article, I will further explain why is this the right way to watch Fate anime. Let’s dive into it!

Set ten years before the events of Fate/stay night, the anime chronicles the Fourth Holy Grail War, a secret magical tournament held in Fuyuki City, Japan, in which seven magicians known as Masters summon Servants, reincarnations of legendary souls and heroes from all time, to fight in a deadly battle royale for the Holy Grail, a magical legendary chalice cast in gold.

It features both younger versions of Fate/stay night characters, as well as their parents and relatives, as well as unique characters. Kiritsugu Emiya, the primary protagonist of Fate/Zero and the foster father of Shirou Emiya, the protagonist of Fate/stay night, is a ruthless mage killer who enters the tournament on behalf of his wife’s family, the Einzberns.

War for the Holy Grail – In search of the “Holy Grail’s” miraculous powers, this is a competition in which seven magicians call seven Heroic Spirits to fight for it. The fourth conflict begins in the fight that has been postponed three times.

Among the magicians, there was a guy who was always alone and unable to discern the purpose of his existence. Kirei Kotomine was his given name. Kirei was befuddled by fate’s direction and had often questioned why someone like him was granted the Command Seals. However, Kirei encountered a foe. That individual is Kiritsugu Emiya. A ruthless mage murderer and hired assassin who sought the Holy Grail miracle on behalf of his wife’s family, the Einzberns.

This is the Fourth Holy Grail War, which occurred ten years before and is only mentioned in pieces in Fate/stay night. The truth about Shirou’s foster father, Rin’s father, and the younger Kirei Kotomine is exposed.

There is a battle raging between masters and slaves for possession of the Holy Grail. Each master can summon one servant, whose mission is to eliminate the other servants, either by fighting them or by assassinating their master. When just one master or servant remains, he or she is given the Holy Grail, which grants them whatever wish they want.

The narrative follows Shirou Emiya, a diligent and honorable adolescent who reluctantly joins a life-or-death tournament called the Fifth Holy Grail War, in which contestants battle with magic and legendary heroes for a chance to have their wishes fulfilled. Shirou was adopted as a kid after being orphaned and the only survivor of a catastrophic fire in Fuyuki City.

He was raised by a retired magician called Kiritsugu Emiya, who would die years later. His obligation to the deceased and his salvation via his father instilled in him a great yearning for justice and peace. Thus, he diligently develops his physique and tiny skill with magic to one day significantly assist others, even though his generosity is often abused at this level.

After seeing two terrifyingly strong creatures trade blows with swords and spears at his school one evening, he is assaulted, since witnesses to the Holy Grail War are usually meant to be killed. Shirou is on the verge of being murdered when he is rescued by Saber. He is pursued to his house by the spear-wielding warrior Lancer and is barely able to escape his blows.

Saber was developed as a personification of a famous historical character (Arturia Pendragon in her instance) to assist combatants in the War. Shirou’s entrance into the Holy Grail War as a Master is formalized by her ostensibly accidental summoning and the emergence of the markings on his palm.

Rin Tohsaka conducts the summoning ritual and summons Archer on the tenth anniversary of Fuyuki City’s great fire. Archer immediately confronts Lancer, but their battle is seen by Shirou Emiya, who escapes but is caught and murdered by Lancer. Rin uses her necklace to resurrect Shirou, but he is subsequently assaulted by Lancer and summons Saber, who chases Lancer away.

Kirei Kotomine informs Shirou about the Holy Grail War at a chapel, and Shirou chooses to fight. Shirou approaches Rin about allying but is stopped by Illyasviel von Einzbern and Berserker. Archer finishes the battle with a huge explosion. Illya withdraws, and Shirou succumbs to his wounds.

Shirou has a strange sensation upon visiting the school the next day and meets with Rin to explore. They come upon Rider and her master, who turns out to be Shinji Matou. While Shinji escapes inside the school, Rin rescues Shirou. Shirou summons Saber, and together they see Shinji cowering in a classroom corner with a defeated Rider who vanishes. Shinji says that someone else committed the crime and escapes once again. Later, Kotomine proposes to Shinji that he take on a new servant.

Shirou sleepwalks to Ryuudou Temple that night, where Caster makes an effort to steal his command spells. Saber pursues but is apprehended by Assassin, while Shirou is rescued by Archer, who subsequently fights and defeats Caster, thus saving her life. Shirou quarrels with Archer, who advises him to realize that he will not be able to rescue everyone.

Archer ignores him and turns on Shirou until he is saved by Saber. As they return home, Caster ambushes Rin, Shirou, and Saber, stabbing Saber with Rule Breaker, a weapon that nullifies servant contracts. Saber defies Caster’s orders to assassinate Rin and Shirou and then vanishes with Caster.

Caster assassinates Kotomine and seizes control of the church, and Rin and Archer quickly face Caster and her master Souichirou Kuzuki, but Archer turns against Rin. Shirou intervenes before Archer may request Caster’s protection. Outmatched, the two decide to seek help from Illya.

Shirou Emiya is a young wizard enrolled in Fuyuki City’s Homurahara Academy. After cleaning his school’s Archery Dojo, he witnesses a struggle between superhuman beings and becomes engaged in the Holy Grail War, a rite in which magicians are known as Masters battle it out with their Servants to win the Holy Grail.

Shirou joins the fight to prevent an evildoer from obtaining the Grail and to protect innocent people, but everything goes awry when a mysterious “Shadow” starts murdering individuals in Fuyuki on an indiscriminate basis.

Shirou Emiya, an inexperienced magician, has been drawn into the Fifth Holy Grail War, a battle to the death between seven mages and their Servants, familiars who are renowned historical figures. Shirou is determined to win the Holy Grail Conflict to rescue the world and be a hero of justice, while also protecting his companion Sakura Matou from the war and her violent brother, Shinji Matou, with the assistance of his Servant, Saber, and classmate, Rin Tohsaka. Strange events begin to occur throughout the battle, and Sakura becomes ill with an unknown illness.

Even though he has lost the war and Saber, Shirou is unable to abstain from participating in the Holy Grail War. Shirou is adamant about keeping Sakura safe when she is revealed to be a Master during the Holy Grail War. Shirou and Rin are determined to bring the Holy Grail War to an end as Sakura succumbs to her strange sickness and the mysterious shadow continues to murder people.

Shirou sacrifices his own body and mind to rescue Sakura by halting the contaminated Holy Grail, confronting his now-corrupted Servant Saber in the process. Shirou and Rin join forces with the wayward priest Kirei Kotomine, fellow competitor Illyasviel von Einzbern, and Sakura’s displaced Servant Rider in a race against time to save Sakura from madness and put an end to the Holy Grail War once and for all, before the corrupted Grail brings the world to an end.

Illyasviel von Einzbern is a typical Japanese schoolgirl. She lives with her overachieving elder brother Shirou Emiya and her two maids, her parents are always away, and she has fantastical fantasies of utilizing magic to make her dreams of love with Shirou come true. Enter bitter rivals Rin Tohsaka and Luviagelita Edelfelt, two Magi dispatched to Japan by Zelretch the Wizard Marshall, Master of Parallel Worlds, to collect the mysterious Class Cards and clean up their mess.

After tiring of their continuous bickering, one Kaleidostick, Magical Ruby, detects Illya’s brief fantasy of magic and abandons Rin for her, duping her into becoming a magical girl. Illya is now being coerced by Rin into collecting the perilous Class Cards in her stead. Perhaps more perilous are Illya’s secrets, which may have drawn Ruby to her unwittingly.

After a series of fights, Illya and Miyu gathered all Cards and became friends, while Rin and Luvia stayed in Japan on Zelretch’s orders. Kuro, a dark-skinned female who has an uncanny likeness to Illya, suddenly complicates their lives by attempting to kill Illya.

Their fight is interrupted by the appearance of Illya’s mother, Irisviel, who explains that Kuro was originally meant to be the Holy Grail in the Holy Grail War, but was locked away when the war was averted to allow Illya to have a normal life. Illya provides Kuro with the mana she needs to maintain her physical form, and she is accepted into the Einzbern family.

Bazett Fraga McRemitz, who was previously responsible for acquiring the Class Cards, attacks the gang shortly thereafter. When Rin exposes the existence of an eighth Class Card, a truce is imposed. The gang faces up against Gilgamesh, the seventh Class Card, who reveals that Miyu is from a parallel universe where she was born as a Holy Grail before being absorbed. Illya combines the Kaleidosticks Ruby and Sapphire to become Kaleido Liner Zwei, which endows her with the ability to fight Gilgamesh and save Miyu.

The year is 2015, the last age in which magic reigned supreme. Caldea is an institution founded to monitor both the magical and scientific worlds – as well as to avert humanity’s ultimate annihilation. Humanity is promised at least another hundred years, or until Caldea’s future kingdom disappears into thin air.

Caldea is now certain that mankind would perish after 2017, according to occurrences in the Japanese city of Fuyuki in 2004. The group releases a Grand Order for a “Holy Grail Expedition” with the mission of investigating, uncovering, and perhaps destroying the singularity responsible for humanity’s extinction.

Chaldea is under severe suspicion from many organizations, including the United Nations and the Mages Association, in the aftermath of the Singularity crisis, owing to their involvement in rayshifting in different periods. The group suspected the existence of a new singularity distinct from the previous ones. Ritsuka is once again entrusted with managing Singularity Subspecies and unraveling the deeper secrets behind their existence.

Chaldea would thereafter be managed by Goredolf Musik. Goredolf was revealed to be a scapegoat in a hostile takeover by a mystery organization working with an unknown entity dubbed the Foreign God to destroy Chaldea and modern human history, returning the world to the Age of Gods. Ritsuka, Mash, and the other Chaldea members fled on the autonomous vessel Shadow Border.

To rescue mankind, the gang now goes to alternative eras known as “Lostbelts”; alternate versions of human history that are markedly different from the main human chronology and were “pruned away” from the original timeline after being considered a dead end.

Each of the seven Lostbelts is represented by a Crypter, previous human masters, and their slaves, all of whom are vying for the final destiny of human history with the Chaldean survivors. Ritsuka Fujimaru must make some difficult choices and sacrifices that will determine whether they become a savior… or a destroyer.

Fate/Apocrypha is set in a parallel universe to Fate/stay night. Darnic Prestone Yggdmillennia takes the Greater Grail during the Third Holy Grail War, transporting it to Romania. Sixty years later, in the Greater Grail War, the Yggdmillennia clan declares war on the Mage’s Association, putting two teams of Servants against one another. The squads of Yggdmillennia and the Mage’s Association are dubbed the Black and Red factions, respectively.

Kairi Shishigou, recruited by the Clock Tower as a necromancer, summons the Saber-class Mordred. Shirou Kotomine leads the Red group, but Shishigou stays independent, distrusting him. Shirou and his Servant, Semiramis, defeat the other masters of Red by taking their command spell, which allows them to control their Servants: Karna, Atalanta, Achilles, William Shakespeare, and Spartacus.

Vlad III, Siegfried, Chiron, Astolfo, Avicebron, and Frankenstein’s monster are among the Black faction’s Servants. Jack the Ripper, their rebellious seventh member, kills her intended master in favor of prostitute Rika Rikudou.

In the body of Laeticia, a French student, Jeanne d’Arc is called the mediating Ruler-class in the conflict. Jeanne attempts to contact the Red faction after seeing visions of Shirou, but they go via Semiramis’ Hanging Gardens of Babylon to Yggdmillennia’s realm in Trifas. Spartacus is apprehended by Yggdmillennia after an attempt to assault their realm.

Yggdmillennia relies on homunculi to generate the mana necessary to maintain the Servants’ existence. Astolfo assists a male homunculus in fleeing. When the homunculus is fatally injured during the escape attempt, Siegfried makes the ultimate sacrifice by giving the child his charming heart. Jeanne takes possession of Sieg, putting him in the hands of a hermit. Sieg chooses to return to Trifas during the fight to free the homunculi.

The Greater Grail is carried into the Hanging Gardens during the conflict between the Black and Red factions. Spartacus and Frankenstein’s monster perish in the battle against Mordred. Sieg protects Astolfo from Mordred after learning he can briefly change into Siegfried. Astolfo’s master Celenike Icecolle Yggdmillennia is decapitated by Mordred, and Sieg becomes Astolfo’s new master.

In an alternative world, the 50-year-old theft of the Holy Grail precipitates a fresh war between the Mages Association and the rebellious Ygdillemna Family. The Greater Grail’s activation summons 15 Servants for an unparalleled combat royale in a new Holy Grail War.

Tsukimihara Academy is a man-made high school that serves as the backdrop for the upcoming Holy Grail War. The school, which was created by the Moon Cell computer, is populated by Earth-projected souls that exhibit even the smallest potential for becoming a “Master.” One hundred and eighty-eight of these 256 individuals will be selected for the main tournament and given a Servant. After selecting all of the Masters, the Academy initiates a purge, eradicating all surviving lifeforms.

Hakuno Kishinami refuses to die after awakening in a pool of his blood. He resolves to battle for survival, fueled by mysterious emotions of hate. As he tries to evade a persistent pursuer, he discovers a crimson blade buried in the ground; by extracting it, Hakuno summons his Servant, Saber, who immediately kills his pursuer in a shower of rose petals. Hakuno must now continue his trip to Moon Cell’s center, the Angelica Cage, with his newly acquired abilities. There, he will discover the origins of this fabricated universe and the dark mysteries of his blood-soaked past.

Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight are sent to the last Singularity after their victory in the Camelot Singularity. They go on a quest to ensure humanity’s existence in Ancient Mesopotamia, B.C. 2655. They hear of the three Goddesses that threaten Uruk, the Babylonian metropolis governed by King Gilgamesh, upon their arrival. Ritsuka and Mash will now have to work together to break the alliance of the three Goddesses and put an end to the bloodthirsty monsters threatening humanity’s future.

The Mage King Solomon has set fire to the foundations of mankind. Chaldea, a clandestine magicians group dedicated to saving humanity’s future, predicted humanity’s demise in 2015. Thus began Effort Grand Order, the operation to restore the Singularities in history created by Holy Grails scattered throughout time and space.

Ritsuka Fujimaru, Chaldea’s final master, and his demi-servant Mash Kyrielight have gone to and resolved six Singularities using the Rayshift time travel technology. They are about to go on their most perilous journey yet: a civilization in the Age of Gods, B.C. 2655 Mesopotamia. Ritsuka and Mash quickly learn that Demonic Beasts prowl the countryside, preying on humans and communities.

Amid chaos and horror, humanity’s last stand is Uruk, a fortress city that serves as the frontline in the war against the monsters. The battlefront is led by none other than King Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes, who enlisted the assistance of Heroic Spirits and assumed the role of a magician to defend his city.
