FromSoftware’s Next Game Nearly Complete, New Elden Ring Content Coming

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creative mind behind developer From Software, says its next game is nearly complete and Elden Ring DLC is on the way.

FromSoftware’s creative director and figurehead, Hidetaka Miyazaki, said in a recent interview that the developer’s next game is nearly complete while also teasing upcoming Elden Ring updates.

As reported by Polygon, Miyazaki spoke with the Japanese gaming site 4Gamer, which asked the designer if FromSoftware had an unannounced game in the works. Miyazaki revealed that its next title was in the final stages of development, though he remained scant on details. He also said updates of Elden Ring would continue in the future, but did not specify whether he meant full-fledged DLC content or standard patches to the game.

According to leaks and rumors, the unannounced title will be the next entry in the Armored Core franchise. This third-person, mecha-shooter action series is FromSoftware’s longest-running franchise with over 15 different titles. The last entry was 2013’s Armored Core: Verdict Day, so the franchise is ripe for a reboot.

Elden Ring has surprised many by becoming the best-selling video game of 2022, with over 13.4 million copies sold as of mid-May. The dark-fantasy RPG features a cryptic story and one of the largest game worlds ever built. It has become a hotbed for mods and fan theories, with many gamers already speculating about the possible content of future Elden Ring DLC.

The legendary Dark Souls developer also revealed that his next title as a director is already in motion and that he wants to continue to create action-RPG fantasy titles, only with more abstraction than his previous works. Miyazaki teased that several more projects were underway at From Software and spoke at length about the company’s ability to take on more projects than in the past thanks to how fresh talent has been nurtured at the company. He said fans should look forward to a different direction from the developer.

In January, all three Dark Souls games on PC were hacked, exposing a serious exploit that could allow someone to directly control another’s operating system through the game, install malware or steal personal information. From Software was forced to take down the multiplayer servers for nearly four months, finally restoring the games’ multiplayer capabilities in late May and early June. “We want to thank all our players for your patience and understanding as we work to fix this issue,” From Software said after announcing the fixes.

Elden Ring and the Dark Souls Trilogy are available for Playstation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
