Frozen 3: Kristen Bell Tries to Force Disney’s Hand by ‘Announcing’ the Threequel

Frozen star Kristen Bell jokingly announces another film installment of the Disney franchise, but expresses her interest in returning as Queen Anna.

Frozen and Frozen 2 star Kristen Bell unofficially announces a third film for the Disney franchise.

While discussing the Hulu original series Veronica Mars and her new book The World Needs More Purple Schools on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the late-night host asked if they could “announce anything” about Frozen 3. Bell replied, “I would… like to officially announce, with zero authority, Frozen 3. Please bear in mind I did say ‘zero authority’ because I can’t do that. I can’t do that. No, I’m not in charge.”

After stressing that she does not have the official say to announce another film, Bell continued on to express her interest in turning the Frozen musical duology into a trilogy, saying, “Well, you know, I’m… I’ll keep it mysterious, but I know Idina [Menzel, who voices Anna’s sister, Elsa] recently said she would do it and I feel like if we’re all in, like, what are we waiting for? Let’s do it.”

Frozen 2 released on Nov. 22, 2019, nearly six years after the first film took audiences by snowstorm and caused parents to hear the “Let It Go” track on repeat. Whereas Frozen saw Arendelle princesses Anna (Bell) and Elsa (Menzel) grow closer than before, the sequel left off with the two moving away from one another and going down different paths, though they still keep in touch. While Anna becomes the new Queen of Arendelle, Elsa chooses to live with the Northulda people in The Enchanted Forest among other elemental beings.

Disney has yet to officially announce another sequel to Frozen. The most recent project to release starring one of the film’s characters is Olaf Presents on Disney+, bringing back actor Josh Gad’s beloved singing snowman. The short series continues a gag from Frozen 2 in which Olaf recaps the events of Frozen, having him do the same for other Disney fan-favorites, including The Little Mermaid, Moana, The Lion King, Aladdin and Tangled.

Similar to Olaf Presents, while no sequel to the original film has been announced, the next animated project landing on Disney+ will be the Baymax! series, which continues the story of the lovable robot from Big Hero 6. When the film originally released in 2014, it was overshadowed by Frozen due to the musical’s immense success, even though the latter movie released a year prior. Of course, the story of the Big Hero 6‘s young superhero team did make it to the small screen for a three-season television series, which released its third and final season in 2021.

Frozen and Frozen 2 are both available to stream now on Disney+.
