Dragon Ball is one of the most popular and most known anime franchises in history. The manga that inspired the original anime started publishing in 1984, and the original anime kicked off in 1896. Since then, a lot of spin-off shows and movies were released to this day, and the newest movie in the franchise – Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero – is set to be released on April 22, 2022 in Japan and in summer of 2022 in North America.
Currently, the latest Dragon Ball anime film — Dragon Ball Super: Broly — was released in December 2018. Set after Set after the events of the Universe Survival saga, the movie followed Goku and Vegeta and their encounter against Broly, a powerful Saiyan. The movie received critical acclaim, and it grossed $122.7 million, which makes it the highest-grossing Dragon Ball movie ever, played highest-grossing anime movie of 2018, and one of the highest-grossing anime movies of all time.
This year, we are waiting to see if Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will be at least equally successful. Considering it’s been almost four years since the latest Dragon Ball movie, we are sure the fans are eagerly waiting for more from the Dragon Ball franchise.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will follow The Red Ribbon Army, an evil organization that Goku has already defeated once in the past. Now they’re back with two powerful Androids, named Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, ready to seek vengeance against Goku and his family. The movie is directed by Tetsuro Kodama from the screenplay by Akira Toriyama (creator of the whole Dragon Ball franchise). Masako Nozawa is starring as Goku, and his two sons; Gohan and Gotten.
