Isekai wa Smartphone Season 2 announcement surprises fans

Fans of the anime In Another World With My Smartphone are surprised that after 5 years it has been announced that Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni Season 2 is now in production.

In Another World With My Smartphone is a Japanese light novel series written by Patora Fuyuhara and illustrated by Eiji Usatsuka. It began serialization online in 2013 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro (Let’s Become a Novelist) until Hobby Japan acquired it and published it as a light novel.

The web novel had a cumulative total of over 391 million page views and over 2.5 million copies of the light novels have been sold. The western release of the light novels sold more than the Japanese releases, which may have been a contributing factor to the decision to produce Season 2.

J-Novel club has been releasing each English novel in 6 weekly parts since February 2017. In November 2016 a manga adaptation by Soto began its serialization in Kadokawa Shoten’s Camp Ace. Yen Press has licensed the English manga.

The latest light novel, Isekai Smartphone Volume 26 Special Edition with Drama CD, will be released on April 19, 2022! It will be published by Hobby Japan under the label HJ Novels.

A comment from Patora Fuyuhara in regards to the announcement:

“Hello, this is Patora Fuyuhara. I’ve been waiting for a long time, but I’m able to speak to you all again with a special announcement about In Another World With My Smartphone. The second season of anime has been decided! I think this is also thanks to everyone who has supported me even after the animation was over. I hope you enjoy it again.”

Mr. Soto the creator of the manga commented about the news:

“Congratulations on the second season of the anime! I’m glad to see everyone moving forward again. I’m looking forward to it.”

The studio making Isekai Smartphone Season 2 has not been announced yet. Studio Production Reed (renamed Ashi Productions in 2019) is the studio behind the anime adaptation that aired from July to September 2017. The anime series has been licensed by Crunchyroll.

If you haven’t watched Season 1 now is the time to watch it and get hyped for Season 2! The story begins when 15-year-old Touya Mochizuki is accidentally killed by God. As an apology God allows Touya to be resurrected. However, Touya is not allowed to return to his original world and only has the option of reincarnating into a new fantasy world.

God tells Touya he can make one special request. Touya decides he wants to bring his smartphone with him into the new world. God modifies Touya’s phone so that it can be recharged by magic, can access data about the new world he’s in, and use a GPS function to find places he’s looking for. Sadly, he cannot use it to connect to his old world.

As a further apology for killing him, God grants Touya super strength, magical powers, and cognitive abilities. Touya decides to live his new life to the fullest, befriending lots of beautiful women and high-ranking people. Touya travels to different countries, solves political disputes, and tackles quests with his new friends and allies.
