Marvel Teases a Chaotic Captain America and Deadpool Team-Up

In Captain America: Symbol of Truth #2, Sam Wilson goes looking for Deadpool in his current search for answers, leading to a volatile team-up.

The following contains spoilers for Captain America: Symbol of Truth #2, coming soon from Marvel.

Captain America is on a collision course with Marvel’s very own Merc with a Mouth.

Captain America: Symbol of Truth #2 sees Sam Wilson continuing on his hunt for answers surrounding missing Super-Soldier Serum and mysterious appearances. At some point along the way, he makes a stop in Latveria to see if Deadpool has any useful information. Unfortunately, Sam’s fellow hero appears to be dealing with a much more violent sort of interrogation when the Avenger comes calling.

Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, first appeared in 1991’s New Mutants #98 by co-creators Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza. A former mercenary imbued with impossible powers as part of the same Weapon X program that created Wolverine, Deadpool has long been one of the fiercest figures in the Marvel Universe. Over the years Wade has been a prominent member of teams such as X-Force and the short-lived Avengers Unity Division. Since his first appearance, Deadpool’s personality has settled into a far less serious tone as well, something which helped propel the character to unexpected heights of pop-culture stardom.

Sam Wilson made his debut in the Marvel Universe all the way back in 1969’s Captain America #117 as the Falcon. Sam spent years as Cap’s steadfast partner before accepting the mantle for himself at a time when Steve Rogers was unable to carry on as such. Despite Steve’s return in the time since then, Sam has remained as Captain America, setting a now profound precedent that there need not only be one Star-Spangled Avenger.

Sam’s latest adventure has been steeped in mystery. The return of classic Marvel villain White Wolf has set an enigmatic tone for Captain America: Symbol of Truth going forward, with the events unfolding now being somehow tied to those in Wakanda. White Wolf has also hired the services of Crossbones, another iconic albeit more menacing villain with whom Captain America has plenty of experience. The series is running concurrently with Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, which features Steve Rogers as the titular hero while he explores his own sprawling conspiracy.

Captain America: Symbol of Truth #2 is written by Tochi Onyebuchi, with art by R.B. Silva, colors by Jesus Aburtov, and letter’s by VC’s Joe Caramagna. Main cover art is provided by Silva and Aburtov, with variant covers featuring the work of Mateus Manhanini and Peach Momoko. Captain America: Symbol of Truth #2 goes on sale June 29 from Marvel.
