Obi-Wan Kenobi’s season finale pits the Star Wars community against each other, leaving fans debating if the Disney+ series fully delivers.

The following article contains minor spoilers for the season finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi, streaming now on Disney+.

The Star Wars fanbase is divided over the finale of the Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Fans took to social media to express their opinions regarding the show’s six-episode run. Some believed the series delivered on its promise of a Kenobi-centric story. Watchers were particularly pleased they were finally able to witness Obi-Wan’s long-awaited duel against Darth Vader, with much praise aimed towards the emotional performances given by stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. There were still some who believed Obi-Wan Kenobi fell short of their expectations. Critics claimed there were issues with the show’s narrative pacing, alongside others who were unsure if its strengths were able to make up for its weaker elements. There were also Star Wars fans who felt Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced too many inconsistencies in the franchise’s lore to be enjoyable.

While the community is still seemingly conflicted about Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s overall quality, the show still delivered several widely praised moments during its six-episode run. Director Deborah Chow shared that her favorite scene came at the very end of the series when actor Liam Neeson returned to reprise his role as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Chow stated she was especially fond of the reunion between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, with the director describing the moment as “very special.”

Neeson also revealed his reprisal of the role of Qui-Gon was influenced by his experience with the franchise and his appreciation of the series franchise George Lucas. “I certainly didn’t want anyone else playing Qui-Gon Jinn, and I wanted to show my respect for George and that mythical world that he created,” Neeson said. “Plus, Ewan is a pal, and I loved working with him during The Phantom Menace 25 years ago.”

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy previously spoke about the possibility of a second season for Obi-Wan Kenobi. She explained there were originally no plans to continue the limited series beyond its six episodes, but Chow said, “I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us. And if we feel like, ‘Ok, there’s a real reason to do this; it’s answering the why then,’ then we’ll do it. But we’ll see.”
