Redfall: Trailer, News & Latest Updates

Redfall is an upcoming open-world FPS survival game with a new twist on the vampire apocalypse. Here’s everything there is to know so far.

First featured in Xbox and Bethesda’s Game Showcase in 2021, Redfall is a highly anticipated new twist on the vampire apocalypse. Arkane Austin Studios, the creators of Prey and Dishonored, continues its path of meticulous world building and emphasis on game mechanics with Redfall. Players can look forward to its open-world concept exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Redfall is a peaceful island town in Massachusetts that falls under siege by vampires that block out the sun and threaten to wipe out the town. A group of survivors, all brought to Redfall for a variety of reasons, must navigate the hostile world they find themselves in and try to stop the apocalypse. Here’s what is known so far about the game.

Redfall‘s announcement trailer certainly hooked players in with sarcasm, promises of epic boss battles, and hints towards the characteristics of the four main characters. Layla Ellison, a college student with telekinetic powers is shown to be incredibly strong. Layla can potentially go head-to-head with quite a few enemies the group will come across. Remi de la Rosa, a combat engineer, and Devinder Crousley, a cryptozoologist, are shown to be skilled with machines and weaponry, each wielding different equipment. Jacob Boyer, a former military sniper, seems to have the ability to turn invisible, although what exactly his full power set is remains to be seen. He apparently has a raven, although it’s unclear if the raven plays a role in Jacob’s powers.

The game’s recent gameplay trailer reveals more information about what to expect from Redfall. Again, players have the option to go solo or collaborate with other players in their adventure. The pre-beta gameplay shows every character’s fighting along with some of the weapons players can utilize. Remi relies on guns and her robot buddy, while Devinder uses his own inventions and guns. He appears to have a variety of weapons that range from paralysis to petrification. Layla uses her telekinetic powers to help her gun combat as well as helping her friends evade enemies. More of Jacob’s powers are also revealed. The raven seems to be able to act as a sort of telescope or drone for Jacob, enabling him to see enemies from far away. His invisibility could give him the advantage of becoming almost completely ghostlike, preventing enemies from being able to sense him as a living entity.

Combat requires a combination of stealth and strategy, necessary to avoid being overrun by vampires and their cult followers. Layla also reveals the vampires are incredibly strong. They not only had the power to block out the sun, but also push back the ocean surrounding the island to completely isolate the town. The trailer begins with Layla investigating some disappearances at one of the churches in town. She stumbles across some vampires and has to fight her way out.

Redfall is a first-person shooter survival game that takes place in the little island town of Redfall, Massachusetts. Each of the main characters are in the town for their own reasons, but have to band together when vampires appear and block out the sun in their conquest of the town. According to Redfall‘s official website, the vampires were created in a science experiment that got out of control, and are evolving and multiplying.

While the creatures appear to follow some basic vampire stereotypes like vulnerability to sun exposure, they’re clearly not exactly like pop culture vampires. For instance, these bloodsuckers can freely enter holy grounds with no apparent consequences, while their traditional counterparts cannot. The group will eventually encounter a sort of shadow dimension of Redfall that the vampires are probably using to move around the island. Chances are they’ll find some answers to the apocalypse while exploring this other dimension and encounter some powerful enemies hiding out there.

Players not only have to navigate the post-apocalyptic map, but also survive the vampires and their human cult followers as well. The game features an open-world map, encouraging players to explore the town of Redfall to their hearts’ content while learning more about the apocalyptic scenario in which they find themselves. Players also have the option of multiplayer or solo adventuring.

Redfall is among a long list of upcoming titles set to hit the market relatively soon. However, players hoping to dive into the game this year will have to wait a bit longer. Redfall has been delayed along with Bethesda’s Starfield to the first half of 2023. It’s highly likely the game needed some more fine-tuning, so gamers can look forward to an even more stunning version when it releases. Since the announcement of the delay, no specific release date has been revealed.
