Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles is a Japanese light novel series. An anime series adaptation premiered on July 5, 2021 and in this article, we are going to tell you all about its second season.
The second season of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles was officially announced on November 5, 2021and is currently in development. Not much about the release has been revealed as of yet, so we don’t have any information on the cast and crew. An official release date has not been given, but we assume that the show is going to premiere either in late 2022 or in 2023, based on the estimates we have now.
The rest of this article will bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season 2 of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this interesting anime series.
On November 26, 2020, Japanese publisher Hobby Japan announced that the Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles novel series would be adapted into an anime television series. The twelve-episode first season was directed by Osamu Yamasaki at the TMS Entertainment studio. Yamasaki also co-wrote the screenplay with Mitsutaka Hirota, Megumu Sasano, and Yoshiko Nakamura. Kyoko Yufu was in charge of character designs, while Yasuyuki Yamazaki composed the series’ music, which was produced by Nippon Columbia in association with TMS Music.
The opening song, “New Story,” heard in the first season was sung by Marika Kono. This was a first for Kōno. The song in the first season’s credits, “Elder Flower,” was performed by Aguri Onishi. The first season aired between July 6 and September 21, 2021 on TV Tokyo, BS Fuji, and AT-X on Japanese television. The first season of Crunchyroll was shown as a simulcast in the original language with subtitles in various English-speaking territories.
An English-language version (dub) was also announced and premiered in late December 2021. On November 5, 2021, the production of a second season was officially confirmed.
This announcement has definitely made a lot of fans happy, but unfortunately, it was just a mere announcement that has us waiting for more. Taking all of this into account, the second season of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles is probably very close and will quite probably premiere in 2023; 2022 seems a bit too early, while 2024 doesn’t seem likely in any aspect.
Now that we have presented you with all the information about season two of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles, you’ve probably concluded by yourselves that it is still too early for a proper trailer for the upcoming season, meaning that there is none at this moment.
And while the season has been announced last year, we still have no information about its current production status nor a potential release date, so we’ll just have to wait for a release window for the second season to have a more precise window for the trailer’s release.
As we have said, Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles will definitely come back very soon, but it seems that it is still too early in the production for a trailer. The whole series has been extremely popular and it did not surprise us that it had been renewed for a new season. Still, as of this moment, we still don’t have any official information on the new season’s release date, so we’ll have to wait a bit for the trailer to appear.
The only things we have are an announcement trailer, and one teaser visual. Here is the announcement video:
And as for the teaser visual, you can also check it out here:
Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles season two will probably appear sometime during this year. With a 2023 premiere looking likely, the trailer is bound to appear in the following months.
At this moment, we do not know which parts of the light novel series are going to be adapted in Season 2. Namely, the adaptation schedule for Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles is an enigma, since there are several official sources and it is really difficult to track every scene from the anime and locate it in the written works. We do know that the season is going to continue the adventures of the show’s protagonists, but how far it intends to take us is still unknown. What follows is a very brief overview of the series’ general plot.
Rio is an orphan boy whose mother was brutally murdered in front of him when he was five years old. Since then he has been searching for his mother’s murderer. In addition, he is the reincarnation of Haruto Amakawa, a student of modern Japan who died in an accident and now shares his memories of this other world.
With the help of Haruto’s memory, Rio gains a special magical power that, if used properly, can give him a better life. Thanks to this power, he is able to free the kidnapped Princess Flora and bring her safely back to the Kingdom of Bertram, whereupon Rio receives permission to study at Bertram’s Royal Academy. An accusation against him causes him to drop out of college and flee the kingdom.
He flees to the eastern regions of the world where his mother once lived. There he meets members of his family and learns that he is the son of a fugitive princess from the Kingdom of Karasuki. Years later, Rio decides to return to the Western Kingdom under a new name to exact revenge on his parents’ enemies.
The main cast of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles won’t be going through many important changes, at least not as far as we know. Some new characters will be introduced, that is certain, but the main cast will remain – for the most part – unchanged until the very end (of the first series, at least). This is why we think that the main voice cast, since that is an unwritten rule in modern-day anime adaptations, will return for the second season, but also for all potential future seasons.
We don’t have confirmation of that so we’ll have to wait a bit for it to be official, but we assume that most of the names on the list below will return in future seasons of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles:
The first season of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles was available on Crunchyroll outside of Asia (and, more specifically, Japanese television). Since Crunchyroll is the main anime source in the West, there is no doubt that they will offer the second season for their viewers as well. What we do not have any information about is the dub of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles, but we are going to update this article as soon as some information surfaces.
And while it certainly might be too early to discuss a potential third season of Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles, since we don’t even know officially when the second season is going to air (now that we know that it is in the works), but there are some great indicators that Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles will, indeed, return even after the upcoming second season.
Namely, Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles is still nowhere near its completion (neither the light novels, nor the manga), and the upcoming season probably won’t have a large number of episodes, like the first one, which means that the producers have more space for new seasons, as you don’t really want to rush such shows.
Seeing how Seirei Gensōki: Spirit Chronicles maintains a consistent level of popularity in Japan is and how good it is doing, as well as taking into consideration the fact that the anime hasn’t adapted the whole story (the series is still ongoing, so there’ll be a lot of new material to adapt, alongside the already-existing one that has not been adapted yet), we know that the upcoming second season won’t wrap things up, meaning that a third season is looking very good.
Still, we’ll have to wait for some official news to be sure.
