The Boys Boss Comments on Casting Jared Padalecki for Future Seasons

Eric Kripke, showrunner for The Boys, says that he would love to get former Supernatural star Jared Padalecki on the series along with Jensen Ackles.

Eric Kripke, showrunner of Prime Video’s superhero satire series The Boys, is definitely interested in casting Jared Padalecki for future seasons — if he gets a chance.

Padalecki played Sam Winchester on the long-running urban fantasy Supernatural, which was created by Kripke. As one of the show’s two leads, Padalecki starred opposite Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in an extended story about the two brothers seeking out and defeating paranormal threats. As Ackles recently debuted on The Boys Season 3, questions about whether Padalecki would join him were inevitable, and in an interview with E! News, Kripke addressed the possibility.

“I would put Jared on the show in a heartbeat,” Kripke said. “I mean, he’s really busy with his empire over there in Austin, but if it was willing to play, I would put him on the show in a second.” As Padalecki is now starring in Walker, a reboot of the classic drama Walker, Texas Ranger, his schedule is likely to be a major hurdle.

However, Kripke may be about to secure another Supernatural actor for The Boys, as Jeffrey Dean Morgan is now in talks for a role in Season 4. Morgan, known to fans of The Walking Dead as the former antagonist Negan, played John Winchester, the father of Padalecki’s Sam and Ackles’ Dean, in Supernatural. “Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a superfan of [The Boys], so he and I are talking,” said Kripke. “We’re trying to figure out something for season four. Nothing finalized yet, but he and I are chatting and e-mailing and seeing it we can make it work with his busy schedule. So, stay tuned on that.”

Any reunion of the three Winchester actors on The Boys is bound to defy expectations, given the difference in tone between the two shows. The nature of Morgan’s and Padalecki’s potential roles isn’t yet known, but Ackles’ character Soldier Boy, an arrogant and violent supe from the past, is a far cry from Supernatural’s sarcastic but good-hearted hunter Dean.

Fans who want to see more of the Winchester family can look forward to the upcoming Supernatural prequel series on The CW this fall. Drake Rodger plays the young John Winchester on The Winchesters, while Meg Donnelly will take on the role of the future mother of Sam and Dean, Mary Campbell.

New episodes of The Boys Season 3 release Fridays on Prime Video. The next episode of the series, “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed,” releases July 1.
