The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim release date in 2024, anime cast, and new art unveiled

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim release date by Warner Bros. Pictures will be on April 12, 2024.

The Lord of the Rings anime team appears to be taking a new stride ahead with their major anime. After all, its subsequent adaptation is being worked on by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is now in development, and a new report details the film’s all-star ensemble.

The news comes from Deadline, which announced several of the film’s cast earlier today. The picture will feature the voices of Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, and Miranda Otto, to name a few. Cox will play King of Rohan in the future film, so you can imagine how ferocious the character will sound.

Stunning concept art was also released. The art depicted Helm Hammerhand, who Brian Cox voices. Check out the chilling art below:

Wise will voice Hera, the daughter of Rohan’s King. Luke Pasqualino will also appear as Wulf, the main antagonist in the anime film. Otto will return her as Eowyn, a shield maiden of Rohan, and will also serve as the film’s narrator. If you’re looking for the complete cast list, you can find it below:

Lorraine Ashbourne (Bridgerton on Netflix), Yazdan Qafouri (I Came By), Benjamin Wainwright (BBC One’s World on Fire), Laurence Ubong Williams (Gateway), Shaun Dooley (Netflix’s The Witcher), Michael Wildman (Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), Jude Akuwudike (Beasts of No Nation), Bilal Hasna (BBC’s Sparks) and Janine Duvitski (ITV’s Benidorm).

For those unfamiliar with The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the anime feature will be canon to filmmaker Peter Jackson’s live-action films. The film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set 180 years before the Oscar-winning trilogy. When a vicious lord known as Wulf besieges Rohan, its king Helm and his people are forced to defend their homeland with the last stand at Helm’s Deep. The film will follow Helm and his family as they rally their people against a ruthless foe. It will be an improbable war that soldiers will remember for decades.

“The War of the Rohirrim” draws heavily on Jackson’s six Middle-earth films for inspiration. Philippa Boyens, who worked on the Oscar-winning screenwriting teams for “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit,” is executive producing the picture. Phoebe Gittins, Boyens’ daughter, and writing partner Arty Papageorgiou are writing the screenplay. Richard Taylor (who won Oscars for makeup and visual effects for “The Lord of the Rings”), Alan Lee (who won an Oscar for art direction for “LOTR”), and Tolkien illustrator John Howe are among the creative team members.
