Thor ‘Inspires’ the Guardians of the Galaxy in New Love and Thunder Clip

Thor Odinson delivers a rousing speech to an alien species and the Guardians of the Galaxy in a new video clip from Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor Odinson knows how to turn the tides of battle to his favor, whether it be by his hammer, ax or words. Thor chooses the latter in a new clip from the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.

The clip sees Thor — played by Chris Hemsworth — arriving on a war-torn alien world. After listening to the plight of the blue inhabitants, he turns to face down the overwhelming enemy force while delivering an inspirational speech. Joined by his spacefaring companions, the Guardians of the Galaxy, he throws away his simple garments to reveal his latest battle attire: a red leather vest, white tank top and some denim jeans.

In the brief video, the ruler of the native people briefly explains that the planet had been a peaceful oasis for its people. However, the recent murder of its gods threw it into chaos and left its most sacred temple unguarded. This small mention may be the first time Thor becomes aware of Gorr the God Butcher’s actions within the film.

The fourth installment in the Thor film franchise sees the titular hero going up against Christian Bale’s Gorr — an alien seeking to eliminate all gods from the universe. Having given up his role as New Asgard’s king to Tessa Thompson’s King Valkryie at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor has been exploring the cosmos alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy. These adventures have brought Earth’s Mightiest Avenger back into prime fighting shape, albeit with a Ravager’s sense of fashion.

The film is helmed by New Zealand’s Taika Waititi, who also directed Thor: Ragnarok. The tonal shift from the two previous Thor films partially resulted from Hemsworth’s boredom with the character after Thor: The Dark World. A candid conversation between Hemsworth and Waititi inspired the duo to make future Thor films anything but boring. As Hemsworth put it, “…We decided not to be bored and any time that feeling came into play, we’d go in a different direction.” The critically successful Ragnarok and early positive reactions to Love and Thunder seem to support the pair’s new creative direction for the Asgardian’s solo films.

Thor: Love and Thunder debuts in theaters on July 8.
