TOKYO MEW MEW NEW release date in Summer 2022 confirmed by cat boys trailer PV

Attention cat lovers, Tokyo Mew Mew is getting a reboot titled Tokyo Mew Mew New scheduled to premiere on July 5, 2022.

Sentai has acquired Tokyo Mew Mew New so you’ll be able to stream the magical series on HIDIVE this summer.

Tokyo Mew Mew is a Japanese manga series created and written by Reiko Yoshida and illustrated by Mia Ikumi. From September 2000 to February 2003 the manga was serialized in Nakayoshi – Kodansha’s shojo manga magazine. The manga’s chapters have been collected into seven tankobon volumes by Kodansha.

From February 2002 to Janurary 2003 a two-volume sequel to the manga titled Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode was serialized in Nakayoshi. The character Berry Shirayuki (White Snow Berry), who became the temporary leader of the Mew Mews, was introduced in this sequel.

Tokyo Mew Mew’s anime series adaptation was produced by TV Aichi, We’ve Inc. Tokyu Agency, and Studio Pierrot. From February 3, 2002 to March 29, 2003, the anime aired in Japan on TV Aichi and TV Tokyo and lasted for fifty-two episodes.

The story begins when a young girl named Ichigo Momomiya decides to go to an endangered species exhibit in Tokyo, Japan with her crush Masaya Aoyama. During their date there is a sudden earthquake and Ichigo and four other girls are bathed in a strange supernatural light. Ichigo thinks she’s dreaming when she sees a cat that goes into her body, but the next day she starts acting like a cat and making cat puns.

Seeking answers Ichigo encounters Ryo Shirogane and Keiichiro Akasaka, who explain that Ichigo was infused with the DNA of the Iriomote cat, and that she’s now able to transform into Mew Ichigo – a powerful heroic cat girl.

Ryo and Keiichiro then reveal that the Earth is currently in danger from a group of alien parasites that infect animals and turn them into monsters called Chimera Animas. Only a Mew Mew (Magical Girl Mew Mews) has the power to defeat the aliens so Ichigo is ordered to find the four other girls so they can join together to combat this alien threat and save the Earth.

Tokyo Mew Mew also inspired two video games – a puzzle adventure game for Game Boy Advance and a PlayStation role-playing video game. Tokyo Mew Mew’s manga and a la Mode’s English release were licensed by Tokyopop for publication in North America.

In September 2011, Kodansha Comics published a newly-translated version of the entire manga series. The anime series was licensed by 4Kids Entertainment under the title Mew Mew Power for its North American broadcast and aired twenty-three episodes on 4Kids TV. Three additional episodes aired on YTV in Canada.

A second two-chapter sequel called Tokyo Mew Mew 2020 Re-Turn was released in 2020 and featured updated character designs. Another spin-off titled Tokyo Mew Mew Ole! Featuring male Mew Mews (Mew Mew Magical Boys) was also released in 2020.
