Uta no Prince-sama (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪, Princes of Song) is a multimedia franchise by Broccoli. Originally, it was an Otome video game released on PlayStation Portable in June 2010. Due to the huge popularity it garnered, the game has since grown into a full-blown franchise spawning multiple sequels and spin-offs.

As of today, there are six Uta no Prince-sama otome games:

Following the success of the original games, Broccoli has released a series of spin-off music rhythm games, some of which have been translated into English:

The games have been adapted into several manga series, drama CDs, and stage plays.

The first anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures — Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love 1000% (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪ マジLOVE1000%) — was aired in 2011.

The second season — titled Uta no Prince-sama Maji LOVE 2000%  (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪マジLOVE2000%) — premiered in 2013.

The third season — titled Utano☆Princesama Revolutions (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪マジLOVEレボリューションズ) — premiered in 2015.

The fourth season — titled Utano☆Princesama Legend Star — premiered in 2016.

Following the success of the anime, the first Uta no Prince-sama animated film was released (2019). Titled Uta no Prince-Sama: Maji Love Kingdom, the film was directed by Tomoka Nagaoka (Kokoro Connect), with Takeshi Furuta (Haikyuu!!) serving as chief director. Thereafter, the movie got an English sub and was screened at the Anime Expo 2019.

Sentai Filmworks has licensed all four TV anime seasons and the Uta no Prince-Sama: Maji Love Kingdom animated movie.

Finally, Uta no Prince-Sama: Maji Love Kingdom is to be followed by the theatrical version of the Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love ST☆RISH Tours, set to premiere on September 2, 2022, as mentioned above.

The cast remains unchanged:

The film has been labeled part of a “new theatrical film series” and will be entirely composed of the ST☆RISH idol group’s footage. Broccoli and Noriyasu Agematsu are credited as original creators, with Elements Garden composing the music. A-1 Pictures is producing the movie, which will be distributed by Shochiku Films.
