Venture Bros. Star Shares a Promising Update on the Movie

Patrick Warburton gives fans an update on the long awaited Venture Bros. film, as well as some insight into just why the finale has taken so long.

The Venture Bros. star Patrick Warburton updated fans on the hotly anticipated film.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Warburton opened up about the project’s status, confirming, “Yes, so I’ve already recorded. At this point, I’d even be at a loss because sometimes you go and you record your material, so as far as the whole concept of this movie that they just did, I would not do a good job describing it right now. So we’re just gonna have to wait and see.”

The Venture Bros., created by Chris McCulloch, aka Jackson Publick, first arrived on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block in early 2003. An 18-month gap separated the pilot and subsequent episodes, yet that didn’t keep the series from becoming a breakout hit for the network. The series follows the exploits of the eponymous Venture family, who themselves are a satire of classic pop and pulp characters from Johnny Quest to G.I. Joe and even Marvel superheroes such as Doctor Strange. The Venture Bros. also frequently explores the misadventures of the family’s friends, enemies, and the seemingly random other figures they find themselves crossing paths with. The series was canceled in 2020 after 81 episodes over seven seasons and four specials. The upcoming film was announced in May 2021 and is slated to act as the series finale.

Warburton continued his discussion of the project, saying, “I’m glad we got to do it. There are a lot of disappointed fans that this is it. The Venture Bros. has been a long, sort of tiresome road producing the series, it’s a new season every, what, two years maybe.” He also commented on the show’s long development time, noting that “I don’t think that or because of those orders ever made things easy for the creators of the show, but they did well with it. I think that’s why, too, having that time they were able to keep it creative and interesting and make it the quality show that it is, because they were never rushed. In a lot of shows, they’re rushed and you got to keep producing and producing and producing and sometimes you see a lack of quality therein. With the Venture Brothers, they always had the luxury of time to put together an interesting series with cool story arcs and whatnot.”

Series star James Urbaniak, who voices family patriarch Dr. Thaddeus S. “Rusty” Venture, recently revealed that he was recording his lines for the film on Twitter. Urbaniak said, “In the booth skyping with [Jackson Publick] as we record my final Dr. Venture session (for the forthcoming feature-length series finale). What a long, strange, scientastic trip it’s been.” He then jokingly added, “As you can clearly see from the photo, [Jackson Publick] made me do 215 takes of a scream. The man is a Kubrickian taskmaster.”

The Venture Bros. co-creator Doc Hammer also shared photos of himself in the recording booth for the film with the caption, “SPOILER ALERT: I’m recording Shoreleave! So, simple deduction leads the sagacious minded to the conclusion: ‘I guess Shoreleave is in the Venture special. Joy!”

The Venture Bros. movie will be available exclusively on Blu-ray/DVD and digital platforms for 90 days upon release, after which it will be available to stream on Adult Swim and HBO Max.
